Unette Helps Ivy Corporation
Update Their Packaging in Response to Changing Marketing Requirements
Total partnership results in product optimization
and faster turnaround to meet nationwide seasonal demand
WHARTON, NJ -- Founded in 1946 as a family-held company, Ivy Corporation
has been effectively treating poison ivy for nearly 60 years. Their
IVY-DRY® products are the only ones that contain Zinc Acetate
as the main active ingredient. Once sold door-to-door to local, single-outlet
drug stores, IVY-DRY® is now sold to wholesalers and distributors,
as well as to such leading stores as CVS, Eckerds, and Walgreens.
When Ivy Corporation wanted to change the packaging of its IVY-DRY® products
to meet the consumer and market needs, the company partnered with Unette
Corporation, a leading contract packaging and filling company with a long
history in the cosmetic, pharmaceutical, and personal care industries.
According to Harry Reicherz, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for
Ivy Corporation, Unette’s hands-on style of customized service offered
a single-stop solution to a multitude of special needs for IVY-DRY®. During
a trade show in 2003, they show cased IVY-DRY® Super and
Lotion itch relief products using a spray pump instead of the old screw
cap that had been used for the past 45 years. The response
from the trade show was overwhelmingly positive. “Now we needed
a supplier who could incorporate the pumps and new labeling into our tight
production schedule.”
“Changing to the spray pump was only a small part of the overall
project,” he said. “I needed a contract filler that could
handle a wide range of tasks. I originally contacted Unette
on the recommendation of a colleague and found their operation to be extremely
organized and their technical people knowledgeable and willing to solve
problems and meet a tight deadline.
“Unette started with a single-batch test run of 30,000 units. The
test went so well, they finished our full season run in just 8 weeks. They
even adapted an inserter machine they had built for another company to
specifically handle my spray pump system. What’s more, there
was literally no waste of product, bottles, or spray pumps, every batch
was fully documented and met stringent quality control parameters.
“In order to meet the tight deadline of a seasonal selling window,
Unette was able to do it all; fill, insert and s ecure spray pump, apply
tamper-evident seal, label, ink jet code with lot and expiration date and
pack into cases. The result was that IVY DRY® shipped
on time, ready for the consumer market.
“Ivy Corporation has found Unette to be an invaluable partner. Unette
provided strict attention to detail, stringent quality control, and the
ability to identify and solve problems. They truly deliver what they
promise. When we use Unette, we know that the product is produced
properly, the packaging is right, and that our deadlines will be met. Thanks
to their help, we were able to package and distribute our product as quickly
as possible, and we expect a substantial increase in production to meet
a growing market demand.”
